On 9 October 2026, during the 225th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, Msgr Roberto Campisi, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to UNESCO, delivered a statement highlighting the importance of placing the dignity of the human person at the heart of UNESCO’s priorities and reform processes.

In his statement, Msgr Campisi emphasised the need to direct available resources towards objectives that effectively address people's needs, with particular attention to younger generations. Among the priorities identified were the recognition and promotion of the teaching profession, through decent working conditions and adequate support for continuing professional development, and the promotion of education for peace, particularly in conflict-affected areas, where ensuring continuity of education and supporting young people in situations of heightened vulnerability are essential.

Particular attention was also given to young people's participation in the UNESCO80 reform and to the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and digital environments. Recalling the words of Pope Leo XIV, Msgr Campisi reaffirmed the need to ensure that new technologies remain at the service of human development, freedom and the dignity of the human person.

The statement thus reaffirmed the Holy See's commitment to an education that recognises the centrality of the human person, promotes integral human development and contributes to building more just and peaceful societies.
